As I am Head of Sport, I decided to run some fun fitness/sport games for the juniors because they are focusing on fitness this term. I ran a relay for them which they loved and played a little toilet tag. After, they really wanted to play octopus so we played it but we put a little spin on it. Instead of just running to the other end, we called out some exercise they had to do to get to the other end. (high knees, side steps, bear crawls, skipping etc.) It went really well, better that I expected because I thought that they´d only want to do it for 20 mins or so because they´d lose interest but instead they wanted to go for the whole lunch time!
Do you play any sport? If you do, what sports do you play?

Hi Ella, this looks like the students had a lot of fun - what a great idea! Can you tell me about what you found easy and what challenges you had, and also anything you would do differently next time? Mrs O
ReplyDeleteHi Mrs O, I found everything was easy for me, but for one home-group, I struggled to get them to listen and be quiet. I don´t think I would change anything next time because they loved it and I loved it. (Apart from when I change the whole activity next time I get them!)
DeleteHi Ella, I know the students had a great time. This shows great maturity and organisation. I like how you changes the activities up so they were variations on what they knew.
ReplyDeleteAre you planning to do this again? I know my students would be keen.
Hi Terry, yes I have planned to do this again. I´m doing this 2 times a week because I have a different class each time.

ReplyDeleteThis is Ella from Parkview Senior Squad,
I love how the kids looked in the photos like they communicated really well. Also I love how you changed the Octopus game a bit. What's your favourite outdoor game to play? Mine is capture the flag. You should play that with them I would love to see it on our blog and maybe you could change it up a bit too!
Kind regards
Ella from The Senior Squad :)
Hi Ella, I don´t have a favourite game because I like lots. To be honest, I haven´t played capture the flag before and I don´t really know how to play!

Kia ora Ella. Our tamariki have loved having you guide them in fitness at lunchtime, you can see this by so many children opting to take part. Octopus is their favourite game, so I love that you put a spin on it. Do you have a whistle? You can buy them from The Warehouse for $5 and it will really help with crowd control. Can you think of any other traditional games you could change up? Thanks, Mrs Kidd.
ReplyDeleteKia ora Mrs Kidd. I haven´t thought about another game yet, (because I´m doing the same for all home groups) but I am trying to think of another kind of relay/team challenge for next week. Also, I do have a whistle. I didn´t think of using a whistle but it will probably help!
